Yayasan Mitra Netra

Support for this Indonesian project began even before Missing Link was created, but Agnès Feltkamp was there from its outset in 1991. The name comes from Sanskrit words which mean respectively "association", "friend" and "sight", and the organisation is devoted to helping the visually impaired with their education. In the early 1990s, this involved recording textbooks on cassettes (now on digital supports), teaching students to type, and convincing school directors to give blind children the chance to be among normal sighted children. This initiative was a success and the children supported through this endeavour emerged to become among the best students in their class. This gave them the opportunity to reach their full potential as individuals able to make a valuable contribution to society.
